Evergreen Beautiful Grass For A Beautiful
Lawn
Natural Elements, Bugs and Beasties
It’s every gardeners dream to get a beautiful lawn and once
achieved, it’s a real challenge to keep it looking good! Beware
though; growing beautiful grass and turning it into a perfect
lawn can become an obsession. Often there will be an ensuing
battle to outwit and out manoeuvre the natural elements, bugs
and beasties that are determined to see you fail, or so it
seems!
It’s Just Grass or Is
It?
Often we take grass for granted as its all around us and we
somehow just don’t see it for what it is. Grass is so important
for the structure and stability of your garden and you should
want to keep looking its best all the time. Most of the stuff
we refer to as grass, the common grasses we use for lawns are
to all intents and purposes evergreens.
Time Effort and
Dedication Prepare yourself for the amount
of time, effort and dedication you are going to have to invest
whilst not forgetting how much money it going to cost you to
get your perfectly beautiful lawn.
Perfect
Grass Not all of us want or need perfect
grass as if just not practical if there are kids or pets using
the garden but we still want it to look nice and be functional.
We still must learn how to grow and nurture it until it matures
and then maintain it, maybe for decades.
Good Soil – Good Grass –
Good Lawn
Grass has different growing requirements than trees and shrubs
that prefer soils with a sandy or gravel element. Lawn grass
prefers a rich top soil and a good supply of water and
nutrients throughout the growing season. Soil containing a high
proportion of gravel and or sand leads to wastage of water and
nutrients and it’s more difficult to create a really good lawn
and keeping it looking beautiful. These poorer soils dry out
quickly so you have to ensure they retain sufficient moisture
to keep the grass healthy and provide sufficient nutrients to
combat any growth deficiency.
Good Soil
Drainage
Grass, although quite tolerant to very wet conditions, should
not be left constantly in soggy soil such as that caused by
dense clay that has poor drainage. If this is the case, you
will have to introduce some drainage with a garden fork.
Failing this, you may have to think about installing
underground drainage and add a good depth of good quality top
soil.
Get It Right First
Time
You may be lucky enough to move into a brand new home and be in
a position to create your own beautiful lawn. If you can do
this, then you very fortunate as you will be in total control
by having the opportunity to get it
right
first time. This will save you an enviable amount of time and
effort in the future whilst saving you so much frustration. You
will actually have to time to enjoy your lawn instead of doing
battle with it and you will be the envy of your
friends.
Repaying Your
Efforts
You’re still going to have to upkeep the lawn by maintaining
its healthy condition, but you’ll be way ahead of anyone else
who has not taken your preparatory steps. Your additional
initial financial investment for your beautiful lawn will
easily repay itself over and over again.
