Pruning Evergreens
Controlling and Managing The Growth Of Evergreen Trees For Safety - Pruning
Evergreens
You may want to control the growth of evergreen trees and shrubs or manage their appearance to obtain the effect
you desire. You may have safety in mind by removing dangerous growth from potentially damaging your home or falling
on your car, let alone cause personal injury to a neighbor!
Evergreens look so attractive with their branches
laden with fresh new show and look just like a Christmas card, but there is hidden danger. Those snow-laden
branches can be very heavy and cause branches to weaken, crack and even fall, causing unexpected damage to people
and property! If in doubt about the safety of any trees, always consult an expert, preferably a “Tree Surgeon” and
don’t delay any work required.
Pruning Evergreens - Trees and
Shrubs: Pruning evergreens can be beneficial for their growth and their good looks,
but you must know what you are doing. You must prune specifically for the species in question, especially if
it is a flowering variety as you would not want to cut off the growth that would produce next year’s flowers!
Always seek good advice.
The Virtues of Evergreen Trees, Shrubs and Plants
Overall, evergreens provide splendour all year round and stand out from the drab deciduous trees that drop their
leaves. To look out of your window in the middle of winter and see something green provides interest where there
would otherwise be very little else to look at. There is an evergreen for every situation and occasion you could
virtually think of within reason.
When considering evergreens to grow, think from the
ground up, from the grasses and ground cover to the creepers and tall coniferous varieties. If you have a garden,
don’t be slave to it; choose to have very little maintenance. With the right planning, your whole garden can be a
mass of diverse evergreens with startlingly different forms, and colors.
Keep pruning you evergreens and your garden will look magnificent and will always appear
interesting, wildlife will love it and you can sit back most of the time admiring it – that’s what I do and
everyone admires it, the garden that is!
